Many Nigerians receive WhatsApp messages promising easy cash for testing mobile apps. Some of these offers are real microtasks that pay a few naira per test, while others are traps that ask you to pay for a “training course” before you can start. Knowing the difference saves you from losing money and personal data.

Scammers often copy the branding of well‑known platforms such as UserTesting or Testbirds and send bulk messages to phone contacts. They exploit the high demand for side income in cities like Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt. A legitimate platform will never ask for a payment before you complete a test, and it will always provide a verifiable web address with HTTPS.

Step-by-step

  1. Verify the source: Check if the invitation comes from a known platform such as UserTesting, Testbirds, or a registered Nigerian tech hub. Official sites use HTTPS and display clear contact details including a physical address and support email.
  2. Look for a public job board: Legitimate microtask sites list tasks openly. You should be able to browse available tests without logging in first, and each task shows the expected payout and estimated time.
  3. Confirm payment method: Real platforms pay via bank transfer, PayPal, or mobile money like Opay after you complete a test. They never ask you to send money first, and they publish a minimum withdrawal threshold.
  4. Read the terms: Search for “payment schedule”, “minimum payout”, and “refund policy”. Scam pages often hide these or use vague language that changes after you register.
  5. Test with a small task: If the platform allows a free trial test, complete it and see if you receive payment within the stated period. A genuine site will credit your account promptly.
